KOPAONIK NATIONAL PARK

I stop at roadside monastery (no English name) on the way to Kopaonik National Park. While the outside is plain, the inside is covered with colorful frescos.

Kopaonik National Park has a big presence as a winter ski area and great hiking trails in the off season. From the main road, I find a dirt road that takes me up to a hill top view which I decide would be perfect for overnight. The next morning I see a deer and watch as a herd of sheep pass by. I walk from the van to the peak that I see from my van and then take a picture back of the van. It reminds me how small I am and how big this adventure is.

People are harvesting wild blueberries. They use a special brush to efficiently harvest the berries into a basket. I meet two little black dogs by an abandoned animal building. I go back in the evening to feed them. Meanwhile I continue on my walk following my intuition.

The next day I stop in town to unload the trash I’ve collected while hiking. I meet three cute little puppies and their mom. Before leaving Kopaonik National Park, I stop at a trail that follows a stream. About a mile it, I see a perfect spot to strip and soak myself in the cold water. I’m refreshed and ready for more adventures!

STUDENICA MONASTERY

Studenica Monastery was built in the 12th century and is the largest Orthodox monastery in Serbia. The decorative crypt holds the relics of Saint Anastasia of Serbia. From there I drive through a valley in the Golija Nature Preserve.

I’m really enjoying this intuitive mode of traveling. My goal is to be in nature. My destinations are national parks and UNESCO sites. I’m not using any camping apps as I want to follow my intuition and stop wherever it’s interesting. I get water from the roadside fountains. I rinse in rivers or lakes. It feels so freeing. Since I’m an introvert, I really appreciate the solitude. I meet the best dogs along the way. Feeds my soul.
