I have been traveling since 1969 and have seen 48 states and 54 countries.

In 2001 I took my first international hiking trip - walking across the foothills of the Himalayas. I solo walked the Camino Trail across Spain for 400 miles, and solo walked from Prague, Czech Republic to Tubingen, Germany logging 403 miles.

In 2012 I started adventure biking and have spun my wheels for 4,800 miles… so far.

Europe has over 30,000 miles of biking and hiking trails with another 25,000 miles in the works. There are 19 long distance routes called the EUROVELO. The shortest trail is 650 miles and the longest is 6,800 miles. My dream is to bike them all!

2026 ~ VAN MEANDER THROUGH EUROPE & THE BALKANS

I bought a van in Germany! I met Eike, the owner, in 2025 when he was passing through Camp Ambassador in Bitola, Macedonia. He showed me his van and mentioned he wanted to sell it and buy a bigger van, but not until 2026. After a tour of the van, where his conversion craftsmanship was on display, I remarked that I had been thinking about buying a van in 2026. We reviewed some modifications and agreed on a price. EZ PZ!

My plan for 2026 was to start riding a motorcycle across the United States in late spring, then head to Germany in mid-summer and pick up the van. A slight accident before leaving, breaking my tibia and fistula below the knee, cancelled the U.S. trip and delayed my departure to Europe until September. Eike has made all the modifications to the van and is patiently waiting for me to come get my new ride.

Now I’m mended and ready to hit the road. This trip through Europe is focused on visiting family and friends. I’ll be starting in Germany, continuing down to Spain and Portugal, then motoring along the Mediterranean to the Balkans, for a total of 13 countries. No agenda, just meandering. Open to spontaneity…
